Tis the Season to be Stingy

Tis the Season to be Stingy A survey of 1,435 UK adults conducted by Tickbox last month has found that Brits could be overspending by up to £2.3 billion a year since more than 75 per cent of those questioned confessed to blowing up to £50 on unnecessary gifts.

The research also suggested that over 50 per cent of men had forgotten what their significant other had got them last year and that women weren’t much better with the presents they had received, with 43.2 per cent unable to recall what they had been given by their nearest and dearest.

Although over a fifth of people were preparing to spend up to £300 on for their friends and families, 27.4 percent of survey sample were unable to remember what other presents they had been given the previous year.

It seems that perhaps the best and most popular present this year really ought to be the opportunity to pay off some debt as economic predictions look increasingly grim for the new year.

Some people clearly do make their Christmas a little merrier though. Although nearly 40 per cent of unwanted gifts are hidden from the light of day at the back of the country’s drawers and cupboards, 27 per cent are touted on the internet to raise some funds.

To save money over the festive period it would appear that wise men ought to buy only essential presents and sell off any that are unwanted or which replace old, outdated items. This strategy may help those in the black with their repayments under debt management plans or IVAs.
